Strawberry Farm: Porter’s Farm main location

Porter's Farm

Porter’s Farm

Porter Farms also has a satellite location closer to Raleigh, but this article is about their main location on Highway 42 in Willow Springs, about 25 minutes from the beltline. This is probably the best location to go when you’re planning a longer outing (unless it is a very busy picking day). After your kids are done picking (or when they want to take a break), there is a sandbox and some picnic tables in the shade as well as relaxing porch swings. Eat your freshly picked (and paid and washed!) strawberries, or take it a step further and get some home-made, fresh-picked strawberry ice-cream.

Update 2013: Porter’s was our main strawberry trip in 2012, and very nice. In 2013, we stopped by on the way home from Smith’s Nursery, but is was so crowded that we could hardly park, and people we’re in line a dozen deep for ice-cream and for strawberries. Should you get there and it is way too crowded, consider Ball’s Produce or Smith’s Nursery, which are both less than 10 minutes away. On a less crowded day though, Porter’s is certainly a very good choice.

Update 2013: As of 5/3/2013, berries are beautiful and ready for picking, but it is still a little bit early in the season. Both locations are open.
